PADI Divemaster Course
Introduction
Start your career as a diving professional with the PADI Divemaster Course. Watercolours wants to make you a proficient and safe Divemaster and therefore asks for a little more of your time than may be offered elsewhere in order to learn the skills required. We do not ask our Divemaster Trainees to fill tanks, although we are happy to show you how this is done. You will work in a close team with our PADI Instructors to develop your knowledge and skills to become a dive professional and an active member of our Dive Centre. This involves assisting Instructors and supervising dive activities by working with your Instructor on dives and training classes. You are promised a full and thorough course with Watercolours and will have a great time learning with us!

Living the dream
What will I do?

Main Training
Dive leadership is taught through classroom and independent study sessions. You will complete water skills and stamina exercises in confined and open water. Training exercises will test your organisational and problem solving abilities to develop a proficient dive professional. There is a lot to this course!

Ask any of our existing customers about the Watercolours Divemasters. You may already know that they work to a high standard. They conduct very full briefings and debriefings for all our dives that not only include safety procedures, dive profile and technique counselling, but also marine life identification. As a DMT with Watercolours we will develop advanced dive leading skills; practiced in relaying all this information just as our staff do before and after every dive.

Our Divemaster trainees work with a number of our instructors to assist with students under training. By working with different instructors you will have experience a wider range teaching styles and have a good understanding of professional teaching and academic knowledge.

Optional Extras
We do not ask our Divemasters to endlessly fill tanks. We have other staff for that task as we believe a Divemasters role is to spend time with the divers. As a trainee you will spend a lot of time with customers and be looked upon as a source of information and advice. Of course, we are more than happy to show you how to fill tanks and use the compressor, as well give instruction on filling times and safety checks, but it should not be a large role of your training.

Living on a small island means we do not have access to equipment retailers and service centres. That is one of the reasons we do all our own maintenance. The other reason is that we do it ourselves to make sure it is done as we like it! If you wish to learn basic equipment maintenance then please ask us and we will give time to show you how we do it.

How many people will be on my course?
We take a maximum of 5 Divemaster trainees per year at Watercolours. As these are spread out over the season you will generally be on the course with a maximum of 1 or 2 others. This leads to excellent personal tuition and allows you to become a fully integrated and valuable member of the Watercolours Dive Centre.

How long does it take?
At Watercolours we ask 4 weeks of your time to complete a thorough Divemaster training. We believe this is the minimum time needed to learn the skills required to become a proficient and safe Divemaster. We can sometimes complete the course in 3 weeks in the case of very dedicated trainees.

What do I need to start?
You need to be a certified PADI Rescue Diver or have an equivalent qualification by another training organisation. You should also have a minimum of 20 logged dives and be at least 18 years of age. A medical clearance signed by a physician is necessary and we can help with this if you are already in Malaysia.

When do your courses run?

Please contact us to make an enquiry about becoming a Divemaster with Watercolours.

Where can I go from here?
With this certification you can seek employment at a dive centre or you continue your training to become a PADI Assistant Instructor or Open Water Scuba Instructor. You could also teach Emergency First Response programmes after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course. If you fancy doing something different then why not look at helping the environment by undertaking a Reef Check Eco-Diver Course.
What does it cost?
The Divemaster Course fee is RM 3000. This includes all confined and open water dives needed for the training and basic equipment rental. You will need to bring your own dive knife, whistle, compass and surface marker buoy or ask us to order it for you to comply with PADI standards.

The price does not include the PADI Divemaster materials (books, RDP's, slates, etc.) or the PADI membership fee. We can assist with the purchase of the materials. Please contact us to ask for information on the current PADI material prices and membership fee for your Divemaster application.

Accommodation is not included in the price, but we can offer a discount at either of our resorts. We can offer substantial price reduction for a room at Impiani or discount at our Watercolours Paradise resort if you require budget accommodation next to the Dive Centre during your training.
